This is it!  The one we've all be waiting for!  Your hosts have been waiting two years to watch and discuss this one, so hold on to your hats, darlings, cuz it's gonna be a doozy!

When  eight year old, Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin, in the role that made him famous) and his large extended family plan a trip to Paris, his house in a Chicago suburb is a flurry of activity.  Kevin, being one of the youngest ones, always seems to be underfoot.  When he wishes that his family would disappear, his wish seems to be granted, as his family accidentally leaves for their Paris trip without him.  Typical kid behavior ensues, lots of jumping on the bed, eating junk food, watching movies he shouldn't watch...you know, exactly how the KYD team behaves all the time.  Little does Kevin know his house is being watched by two burglars (played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern)!  After a few attempts to break in, Kevin must defend his family home against the burglars through a spectacular series of Rube Goldberg-esque traps the likes of which only a serial killer could imagine!  MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

But after the wait...will our hosts hate this movie as much as they have thought they would for the past two years?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

This year, our Holiday wish is to endeavor to be more inclusive! Since Dan is Jew-ish, he grew up celebrating both Christmas AND Chanukah.  So in the effort to focus on other holidays besides Christmas, we watched both A Rugrats Chanukah AND A Charlie Brown Christmas!  In A Rugrats Chanukah, our favorite gang of adventurous babies pay a visit to the local synagogue where Tommy Pickles' Grandpa Boris is set to star in the annual Chanukah play!  The gang learn a valuable lesson about friendship and tradition.  In A Charlie Brown Christmas the lovable Peanuts gang struggles to find the true meaning of Christmas by staging an annual Christmas play. The gang learn a valuable lesson about friendship and tradition.  Hmmm...perhaps our two holidays have more in common than we realize.  But will our two Holiday hosts get all they want this year from these two lovely specials?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Real talk...we've all been watching bits and pieces of A Christmas Story ever since TBS got the brilliant idea to play this movie for 24 damn hours straight.  But when's the last time you actually sat down and watched it as a complete movie?  Your faithful hosts are currently in the thick of the Holiday Haze, so they're gonna sit down and watch it for you!  You know all the iconic moments: the leg lamp, the kid's tongue sticking to the frozen pole, "I can't put my arms down!" and of course..."You'll shoot your eye out!"  You all know the story...red-blooded midwestern boy wants a gun for Christmas.  It's got classic written all over it.  So you know that you love the bits and pieces you catch on TV in between the kids whining over opening presents and your forth glass of Christmas morning zinfandel (just me?)...but do you still love this movie the way Ralphie loves that BB gun?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Thanksgiving has come and gone and we are officially on that Holiday creep, darlings... To celebrate this fun and festive time of year, we will be focusing on holiday themed movies for the whole month of December!  First up...The Muppet Christmas Carol!  Starring Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, the most famous Christmas sourpuss of them all, and all of your favorite Muppet friends as various characters in the Dickens' classic: Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy as his feisty missus, Fozzie Bear as Fozziewig, Statler & Waldorf as the Marley brothers, and Gonzo the Great as our narrator, Mr. Charles Dickens himself!  Disclaimer: Chrysten is pretty stoked on Christmas, and as such, watches this movie and many others every year.  But Dan has not seen this since he was just a lil one, so this should be a fun one!  Will Dan love this movie as much as he did when he was just a little Danny?  Will Chrysten love this as much this year as she does every year? (Probably) Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

No, Brendan Fraser isn't in this one.  And no, Kurt Russell isn't in it either.  So it must be a pretty great movie if neither of those dudes are needed to buoy it up.  And hey!  What do you know?  It's just one of the greatest film classics of all time: Steven Spielberg's love letter to alien life, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial!  This is the incredible story of a boy named Elliott and his deep connection to an alien being that has accidentally been left behind by their spaceship.  This movie was such a phenomenon that it singlehandedly made Reese's Pieces a popular candy and Drew Barrymore a household name.  So much of this movie has permeated popular culture: E.T. phone home, the bike flying past the moon, the glowing fingertip.  But ask yourself this question...when was the last time you actually watched E.T. from beginning to end?  This was the question our hosts had to ask themselves...and then answer by watching and discussing it on this week's show.  So join us and find out...does E.T. live up to all the hype?  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

We took to the streets again this week, and by "the streets" I mean Twitter, to ask the people which Brendan Fraser movie they wanted us to discuss next.  The people have spoken...and the people want Encino Man!  Sean Astin plays Dave, a typical 90s high school loser who just wants the girl he likes to notice him.  When he and his hippie buddy, Stoney (Pauly Shore) accidentally dig up a frozen caveman in Dave's backyard, Dave thinks they are one defrosting away from high school fame.  They pass the caveman (Brendan Fraser) off as an exchange student and this sexy missing link becomes the most popular dude in school overnight.  But when the object of Dave's affection decides she would rather go to the prom with the caveman than Dave, the whole plan starts to unravel!  Both Dan and Chrysten remember liking this as kids...but will Brendan Fraser's charm be lost on our hosts?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Oh man...remember Brendan Fraser?  Remember what a babe he used to be?  Well, you can relive those glory days with us this week as your KYD hosts watch Airheads, starring Brendan Fraser, Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi and so many more recognizable faces!  (Seriously, the supporting cast features Michael McKean, Joe Mantegna, Chris Farley, Michael Richards, Judd Nelson, Ernie Hudson and David Arquette!  Whoa!)  All the LA based metal band, The Lone Rangers, want is to get their demo played on the air so that they can get exposure and sign a record deal.  Together they hatch a plan to hold a local radio station hostage with plastic guns loaded with pepper spray until their song gets played!  But when the cops show up, things get a little out of hand and the band winds up getting more than they bargained for!  This was one of those movies that always seemed to be on TV, and both of our hosts remember loving it.  Will it hold up over time, unlike the careers of most of its stars?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

How's it going, righteous darlings?  Are you ready for a bodacious episode of KYD?  EXCELLENT!  This week we take a trip to the left coast and hang with those two most excellent of California bros, Bill S. Preston, Esquire and Ted "Theodore" Logan in the 1989 time travel classic Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure!  All these two high school buds want to do is start a band, but when their history teacher tells them they are dangerously close to flunking, Ted's dad threatens to send Ted to military school breaking the band up forever!  When Rufus (George Carlin), a dude from the future, lands in San Dimas and offers to lend them a time traveling phone booth so that they can ace their history report hilarity ensues!  Featuring charming performances by Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves as Bill and Ted, respectively, this movie carved a place in the childhood hearts of our hosts.  But will they feel as righteously awesome about Bill & Ted this time around?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE, dudes!

This week we are taking a request from one of our biggest fans, Lindsay "The Original" G and watching her childhood Halloween favorite Hocus Pocus!  Starring the incomparable Bette Midler, underrated comedienne Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker looking the hottest she's ever looked in a movie as the Sanderson sisters!  The Sandersons are a trio of witches in Salem, MA in 1693 who suck out the lives of little children to restore their own youth and vitality.  When the Sandersons are hung as witches, the eldest sister Winifred has cast a spell that will bring them back to life if a virgin lights the Black Flame Candle in their house.  Fast forward to 1993, where insufferable teenager, Max, is being a real pissant about having to take his little sister, Dani, trick or treating.  To impress his school crush, Allison, Max lights the candle, brings the Sanderson sisters back to life and the trio must find a way to defeat them before they suck the lives out of every child in Salem!  This much maligned movie has grown to be a fan favorite during this time of year and Dan and Chrysten can't wait to suck the life out of it, I mean...review it in a concise and objective manner.  Join us and see how the Sanderson sisters fare against our big meanies!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, they're all together ooky...Look out, it's KYD!  This week your favorite nostalgia nerds took a recommendation from you, our loyal listeners, and watched your second spooky October month choice: The Addams Family!  Starring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd and Christina Ricci in the role that made her a star, this movie about everyone's favorite weirdo family next door is the perfect choice to help get us all into the Halloween spirit!  But Dan and Chrysten both remember the sequel better than the original...will they love this one as much as the second one?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Oct 16, 2017

...And more Kurt Russell is what we're gonna give 'em!  This week we watch John Carpenter's 80's sci-fi horror classic The Thing!  Plus it's October, so something scary seemed appropriate.  When a Norwegian helicopter lands at the US McMurdo Station in Antarctica, they are chasing and trying to shoot a seemingly harmless dog.  What the team stationed at McMurdo doesn't realize, is that they are about to have a world of terror unleashed on them!  A murderous space alien goes on a rampage, taking on the physical traits of its host as it kills them from the inside...so they never know who is really a Thing or lying about not being a Thing!  Starring our personal fave, Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley and Keith David.  But will Kurt's baby blues help this movie win over our ever curmudgeonly hosts?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Oct 9, 2017

This week we are joined by our fellow nostalgia nerds across the pond, Mark and Sophie of the You Know What I Like...? podcast!  We watch and discuss their pick, the 90s fantasy film and Macaulay Culkin vehicle, The Pagemaster!  Mac plays a young boy who is afraid of pretty much everything.  When his dad (Ed Begley, Jr. sans smart car) sends him to pick up nails at the hardware store, he seeks shelter from an unexpected thunderstorm in a mysterious library.  When he slips and falls on the wet library floor he knocks himself unconscious and goes on an incredible adventure guided by three anthropomorphic library books that help him to face his fears and become the hero he is destined to be!  Sound cheesy???  Yeah, we thought so too...join us and find out if Macaulay Culkin charms us in this the same way he does in My Girl!  Oh, also Christopher Lloyd is in it and he's awesome.  Check it out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Oct 2, 2017

This week, we answer Twitter fan, Cugino Bambino's request and watch a movie that we have successfully managed to avoid our entire lives...Mousehunt!  We know absolutely nothing about this late 90s Nathan Lane vehicle, other than Nathan Lane is in it and that he...hunts a mouse?  Also Lee Evans is there...and he...does stuff too?  Maybe also involving the mouse and hunting it?  We dunno, we didn't grow up with this one so...you know how that tends to go on this show.  Or will it...?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Continuing our nautical theme with a Kurt Russell twist, this week we watch Chrysten's pick, Overboard!  Starring real life #relationshipgoals couple Kurt Russell (hubba hubba!) and Goldie Hawn (hubba hubba!), the story centers on struggling carpenter and father of four, Dean Proffitt.  When he takes a job building a shoe closet for snobby and insufferable yacht owner, Joanna Stayton, she insults him and ultimately stiffs him on his payment.  When Joanna accidentally falls off the aforementioned yacht, she suffers amnesia.  Dean, looking to seek revenge on his abusive former client, picks her up and convinces her they are married and turns her into the lower middle class housewife she always abhorred!  Dean only intends for the ruse to continue for a month, but when he and Joanna unexpectedly fall in love, things get tricky!  OK, ok, listen...we realize what this premise sounds like.  Just stick with us...How else will you find out if Dan fell "overboard" for this movie?  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

As a wave goodbye to the golden days of summer, we are sticking with our nautical theme of the past few episodes and watching Dan's pick Captain Ron!  Martin Short plays Martin Harvey, a middle-aged man with a boring desk job who dreams of a big adventure beyond his home city of Chicago.  When he inherits his uncle's boat, he takes his wife (Mary Kay Place) and two kids to the Caribbean for a long adventure on the high seas!  When the boat dealer he has agreed to deliver the boat to at the end of his trip learns of the boat's less-than-stellar condition, he hires a cut-rate local sea captain to help the Harvey family on their journey.  The titular character Captain Ron (played by American treasure and certified hunk, Kurt Russell) is not exactly the type of captain the Harveys bargained for and plenty of high seas hi-jinks ensue!  But will Chrysten and Dan be charmed by the eye-patched antics of Kurt Russell with Martin Short as the straight man?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Who doesn't love Tom Hanks?  For those of us that grew up in the golden age of Hanks, this movie is the one that started it all.  This week, we dive into Chrysten's darling, the 80s oceanic rom-com, Splash! When produce company owner, Allen Bauer's live-in girlfriend breaks up with him, he takes a cab ride from NYC to Cape Cod (not a real thing you can do in NY, btw) to do some soul searching.  While in Cape Cod he is saved from drowning by a mysterious, beautiful woman who follows him to NY.  They spend a week together and fall madly in love.  But there's something fishy about this mysterious lady...she's a mermaid!  Starring the aforementioned Tom Hanks as Allen, Daryl Hannah as Madison the mermaid, John Candy as Allen's womanizer brother, Freddie, and Eugene Levy as a crazy scientist hell bent on exposing Madison's secret to the world!  It's a sweet and sexy twist on your typical rom-com that Chrysten has loved since she was in short fins.  But will her cynical sweetheart, Dan, be as swept away?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

This week was Dan's pick...and hoo boy...it was...something.  This week we watch extended after school special and large water mammal liberation film, Free Willy.  We open with orphan and stereotypical bad kid, Jesse, vandalizing the tank of Willy the whale, the main attraction at a local marine park.  When Jesse is caught, he has to work at the park removing the graffiti he and his bad kid friends...sprayed?  Tagged?  Whatever, I'm old...  During his time at the park he forms a special connection with fellow bad kid, Willy, who refuses to let the park's trainer (Lori Petty) tame him.  Also, Michael Madsen is Jesse's foster dad and he is...very Michael Madsen in this.  We spent most of the movie just waiting for him to cut somebody's ear off while playing Steeler's Wheel, but, alas...Featuring an amazing closing song by Michael Jackson, this is a "whale" of a morality tale.  But will our hosts be moved by its message?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Fun fact...James Cromwell's ringtone is him saying his most famous line.  You know the one... "That'll do, Pig..."  This week we watch the movie that made that line (and James Cromwell, for that matter) a part of the American lexicon: Babe!  As a piglet, Babe is taken from a dreary slaughterhouse and won in a contest by farmer Hoggett.  Babe, an outsider on the farm, is adopted by a family of sheepdogs and, in turn, starts learning to become a great sheep-pig in his own right.  This sweet, family friendly movie about daring to be yourself in a world that constantly rebukes individuality is a 90s classic and was nominated for several Oscars.  But will it pass the test of our incredibly judgmental hosts?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Aug 21, 2017

FINALLY breaking his very long streak of watching childhood classics that he never saw as a child, Dan suggested we watch the 90s family dramedy and Macaulay Culkin vehicle, My Girl.  Excellent suggestion, Dan!  Who doesn't love this movie?  Dan Aykroyd as a curmudgeonly widower who runs a funeral parlor, Jamie Lee Curtis as the sexy make up artist who wins his heart, the aforementioned MAC as the sweet nerdy sidekick...and starring smart ass perfectionist assistant Amy Brookheimer (aka Anna Chlumsky, aka the former star of Dan's childhood romantic fantasies)!  A delightful coming of age tale, with plenty of chuckles, tears and heart, this is one of those movies that you would cancel plans to stay home and watch on TBS.  But will both Dan and Chrysten weep as openly at the demise of Thomas J as they did as adolescents?  Join us and find out, darlings!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Aug 14, 2017

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this week we have a very special guest on our show of shows...our very own fairy pod-father and the star of iTunes' LGBT Podcast Essential, Scream Queenz: Where Horror Gets Gay, Patrick Walsh!  We are watching Patrick's darling, the oddly dark and very psychedelic 70s cartoon movie Snoopy, Come Home.  Iconic Peanuts character, Snoopy, gets a letter from the little girl that owned him before Charlie Brown and he has to make the biggest decision of his whole puppy life!  This movie traumatized Chrysten, Patrick and a host of Patrick's fellow childhood contemporaries.  Dan, really keeping it on brand, has never seen it.  But will this dramatic installment of the Peanuts series have the same effect?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!  And while you're at it, hop on over to Scream Queenz and check it out http://screamqueenz.com/!

We're back on that audience request tip, with Lindsay G (@poormanstinafey)'s darling and Disney live action/animated classic Mary Poppins!  Neither Dan nor Chrysten grew up with this movie and neither has seen it as an adult, so...this is gonna be awkward.  Starring legendary clarion soprano, Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke at his most bang-able, and two extremely wooden kid actors (one of whom looks like a tiny Toby Jones) this movie has a host of fun and whimsical musical numbers, animated fantasy sequences and a whole lotta un-necessary musical numbers as well.  Like, seriously, can I get the first thirty minutes I spent watching this movie back, please?  But will our two cynical hosts love this movie as much as Lindsay da original G does?  Tune in and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!!!

Jul 31, 2017

First of all...we need to address the elephant in the room: Michael Keaton is by far the most underrated actor of the past 30 years.  Guys, he's so good.  Like, for real, just so f**kin' good.  Take this week's film, Mr. Mom.  This is a goofy fish-out-of-water role reversal comedy.  And yet somehow, Michael Keaton is doing some of the subtlest, most interesting work of his magnificent career.  Also Keaton = Best Batman, THIS IS NOT A DEBATE!!!  Btw, Teri Garr and Martin Mull are also bringing their A-games in this movie.  Set in the suburbs of Detroit, Jack Butler has just been laid off from his job as an engineer at a major car manufacturer.  His wife, Caroline, has been a stay-at-home mom for the past few years, but has a background in advertising.  When Caroline secures a job at a big advertising firm, Jack is forced to take on the role of homemaker with HILARIOUS results.  This was one of those movies that Chrysten's parents taped off of HBO that she would rewind and re-watch on a constant loop.  Dan has, as per usual, never seen this movie.  Will they both enjoy this very sophisticated grown-up viewing of this early 80s gem?  Join us, darlings, and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Jul 24, 2017

This week we're going a liiiiittle off format and revisiting a childhood favorite of kids everywhere that needed a distraction while they were doing their homework: Batman: The Animated Series!  We selected four of our favorite episodes (2 each, we like to keep things democratic here at KYD) and discussed in detail what made this series so awesome when we were kids.  We are introduced to one miss Harley Quinn, experience traumatic heartbreak with Mr. Freeze, and realize that Mark Hamill was entirely miscast as a hero...this dude was born to play a villain!  Plus...the amount of famous voice actors that were on this show is almost as insane as the Joker himself.  But is this show as awesome as our middle school addled brains thought it was?  Join us and find out!  Same bat time, same bat channel, darlings!

Jul 17, 2017

This week our good friend and Sixth Borough Brewery brewmaster, Dan Rogers, joins us for a viewing of the most successful independent film of all time (no, that's not a joke) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!  Set in New York City (and by New York City we mean on a sound stage in North Carolina) a mysterious underground crime ring, known as the Foot Clan, has been robbing NY of its precious TVs and car stereos.  None of the Foot Clan have been seen...until our four green heroes catch them robbing cracker jack reporter, April O'Neil!  A rivalry is sparked between the Turtles and the Foot and lots of sweet, ninja fighting action (and hilarity!) ensues!  Starring Jim Henson's Creature Shop, Corey Feldman's voice, and lots of pizza, this 1990 classic kicks the shell out of those Michael Bay imitators!  But does this small, indie flick withstand the nostalgia test?  Join three drunk idiots fueled by Sixth Borough Brewery beer and find out!

Jul 10, 2017

This week we delve even deeper into the missed opportunities of Dan's childhood and watch a movie that almost everyone our age loves that Dan has NEVER SEEN!  Darlings, this week we are hopping on our bikes, grabbing our maps and hunting for treasure in the 80s action adventure The Goonies!  Starring a prepubescent Samwise Gamgee (aka Sean Astin) and mothereffing Thanos himself (aka Josh Brolin) as brothers who, along with their friends, face eviction from their homes so that some rich pricks can build a f**king country club.  Rich people are the worst.  In order to raise the money to save their homes, this ragtag group of misfits go on a treasure hunt where they face off against booby traps so fantastic only Steven Spielberg could think them up AND a family of criminals that are hell bent on getting the "rich stuff" for themselves!  Plus Corey Feldman is there at his absolute Corey-est!  It's pretty clear from this description that I'm psyched about this movie...but will Dan love it as much as I do?  Join us and find out!  And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!
