Diane Keaton + Shoulder Pads + Unexpected Motherhood + Light Feminism = BABY BOOM! This movie is definitely not a quote/unquote "kids' movie," but it's one of those movies that was always on HBO that Chrysten and her mother watched all the time when she was a kid. Since Dan grew up without HBO, he missed out on this 80s gem. Will our hero love it as much as our heroine? Only one way to find out, darlings!
We will, we will ROCK YOU! Or at least Emilio Estevez, Joshua Jackson and this ragtag bunch of pee wee hockey players will...or won't. You'll have to watch and listen to decide! Dan & Chrysten are joined by their good friend, Jeff Bourke, and reviewing the 90s Disney live action classic (?) The Mighty Ducks! We may or may not open this episode with a discussion about how sexually suggestive the word "knucklepuck" is, so parents with young children, this is your explicit content warning!
This week's darling is a bit more obscure...one of "Ratatouille" creator Brad Bird's earlier endeavors, *batteries not included is a heartwarming tale of corporate development, the strained relationship between parent and child, and helpful robot aliens...I know, I know, but trust me, there IS a heartwarming story in there. But does it warm the hearts of our hosts?
This week we take a departure from the usual family friendly fare to watch and discuss a movie that had no business being a part of Chrysten's childhood, but that's what HBO was for in the 80s, amirite??? Follow good ol' Jack Burton, aka Kurt Russell, and a pre "Sex & the City" Kim Cattrall down to San Francisco's Chinatown for a comedic action adventure full of stereotypes, inexplicable situations and Kurt Russell's terrible attempt at a John Wayne impression. Representing the entirety of the Asian-American community, our good friend Harrison Chang joins in the fun to help us decide just how racist this movie is!
